I have been a New Hampshire School Nurse over 20 years. I began by helping out the School Nurse at Saint Mary Academy, where my children attended. At the time, I worked at an Adult Rehabilitation facility. I enjoy working with students and teachers so much that I decided to work at a school full-time. I worked at Hilltop Elementary for 12 years until Idlehurst was built. I am thrilled to be Idlehurst's School Nurse and help students stay healthy and ready to learn. I live in Dover with my family, which includes Marley, an orange Maine Coon cat. I enjoy sharing time with my family and friends, reading, walking, going to the beach, and being part of the community!
What does a School Nurse do during the school day?
School Nurses see students with stomachaches, rashes, nosebleeds, bumps, and bruises. They have an important job in promoting good health so that the students can be in class ready to learn. How do they do it? School Nurses conduct vision, hearing, and other health screenings and teach students how to take care of themselves through good nutrition, exercise, and hygiene. They also help students with special conditions, like diabetes and asthma by teaching them about their condition and monitoring them daily. The School Nurse attends meetings and works with teachers and the community. Most important, the School Nurse is available to all who are in the school building - students, teachers, staff and all visitors!
